DIY Feather Chandelier

DIY feather chandelier

Okay so I've been getting more and more irritated every time I stare at my boring, outdated bedroom lighting fixture.

My bedroom is set in a loft walk up and though it's fun and modern, I unfortunately can't have a super chic, oversized chandelier.  This project proved that the size of the chandelier has nothing to do with how chic it can look.

This took a few hours over 2 days to complete.  It was so easy, inexpensive, and my tutorial will prove that anyone with any budget (and size room) can have this kind of look.

Materials:

-Yarn

-Pet Brush (from the Dollar Tree: I'll show you which one in a sec)

-Tacky Glue or Multi-purpose

-Old lighting fixture (I used the old frosted glass one that was covering the light bulb)

How to:

1. First, take note of the yarn I used for this project (pictured below)

See how it's not just a strand of wool or acrylic? This is the key. I began with cutting random (long, about 10-15 inch) pieces. I tied a knot about 3-5 inches down and where that knot was I split the yarn into three sections and braided it a few times. Then, secure the braid with another knot. Repeat this for as many as you need (I did about 15 in various lengths)

2. Use the pet brush to comb the yarn. Note: you'll have two sections to comb for each, the first is the top of the yarn and the second is below the braid. Start from the bottom and work your way up.  Keep doing this until all pieces are completed.

3. Put some tacky glue on the first knot (right before you started to braid). I found it helpful to wait a minute or two before adhering it to the glass fixture. Hence the name, 'tacky,' it really does get tackier! Do this all the way around the fixture and finitio, all done!
